Risk, read commercially.
I’m Ali. I spent nine years in law: two in disputes, then in-house at Hindalco Industries Limited, Aditya Birla Group. I work where the legal answer and the business answer have to be the same one.
Explore my workSome questions became arguments.
I like the point where a legal constraint stops being a footnote and starts deciding what the business can be. Here are six I followed that far.
Penny-wise
A fee cap decided the business model.
Pulse-AI
Family health records and bookings in one WhatsApp chat.
Arôme
A consumer thesis held to a financial test.
Marketplaces
Where the margin actually sits.
Compass Careers
Try a career’s real work before choosing it.
Money Brief
A weekly read on how companies actually make money.
Stopping greenwashing before disclosure.
Renewables up 60%, coal reliance down.
Disputes closed, saving $19.7 Mn.
Can a lawyer build?
I have tested that question in the Supreme Court and the High Court of Delhi, at a greenfield aluminium smelter, and at headquarters in Mumbai. At the plant, a legal problem could stop a production line. At headquarters, it showed up as a number. Either way, the legal answer had a commercial cost.
I closed as Assistant General Manager, Corporate Legal, on an eight-member team steering M&A, strategic investments, policy, electricity and regulatory matters, and ESG. I’m now a full-time PGP–TBM candidate at Masters’ Union on the Pankaj Bansal Scholarship.
A mind trained on both sides.
Political science, then law, then a manufacturing business, now technology and business management. Delhi is home. In each, I wanted to understand how things actually work.
Two scholarships, both merit-based. Delegate, Harvard US–India Initiative.
Notes from the margin.
Writing plainly about something is how I find out whether I understand it. Money Brief is the current one; the rest came earlier.
Nine years, two practices.
Disputes first, then in-house at the unit where the plant runs, then the corporate centre. Each move brought the law closer to the business.

Let’s talk about what you’re building.
I’m looking for roles that need both legal judgement and commercial sense. I’m also happy to be told I got a company wrong.
